I want to inform you that X-Fire is now owned by Titan Platform which could lead to a pay to use service, this would propperly lead to the end of X-Fire (Or as we know it).
On August 2, 2010, Xfire was acquired by Titan Gaming. At 22:16 GMT, the following message was broadcast to Xfire users "Xfire was bought by new owners today. Most of the team that has built Xfire over the last six years is leaving. We enjoyed working for you for the last 127 releases and wish we could stay to create the next 127. Good bye, good luck, and game on. --- The Xfire Team".
A few minutes later the Xfire website displayed a message stating it was temporarily taken offline. When it came back a few minutes later, the news column on the left had the following content:
"August 2, 2010—Xfire has been purchased by another company. Most of the team that has brought you Xfire for the last 6 years is leaving, including me. We've enjoyed our time and I personally am sad that I was only able to do 127 releases. Good bye and game on! - Chris". It was soon replaced with this message:
"August 2, 2010--Titan Gaming Acquires Xfire Titan will be taking on the Xfire name, with a focus towards ongoing innovation in the gaming space. The Xfire services will continue uninterrupted for its users. Xfire redefined how gamers communicate, Titan intends to build upon this tradition and utilize the Xfire platform to help gaming companies better engage their users. We look forward to continuing and expanding upon the Xfire service. --- Raincrow"

Hey Everyone,
I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself - I'm Mark Donovan, one of the original founders of Titan. It's true that we've acquired X-Fire and that we are NOT planning on shutting down the service or changing it in any substantial way. We love X-Fire and what the company has done for gaming since 2003.
What we are planning to do is make some significant enhancements to the features, products and functionality of the service over the coming months. I'm personally looking forward to working with the community to get this done.
A quick intro to Titan: We have a solid team made up of game industry vets including our CEO John Maffei who has previously worked at Xbox and the ZAM Network. We also have vets from EA, THQ, Sony Online Entertainment, FOX and IGT. The company has humble origins from simple scripts to help CS clans manage scheduled matches and has grown into a comprehensive competitive gaming platform.
We'll be releasing more information as it becomes available over the coming weeks and months, but I wanted to put any concerns or doomsday prophecies to rest and start the process of getting to know you guys.
Thanks and if you have any questions please feel free to post them here - I will do my best to answer as many as I can (we're pretty busy) today.
Cheers,
Mark

As promised, we've been looking over many of the questions you guys have asked. We will continue to monitor your questions, and update this thread. (Change log is at the end)
Sincerely,
[Xfire]
----------------------------------------------
Q: Is Titan replacing the Xfire platform with their own client?
A: No. The Xfire platform is intrigal to the success of Xfire as a whole. We love the Xfire platform, and know that most of you do too.
Q: Is Xfire going to become a subscription only platform or am I going to be forced to pay?
A: No. If we were to go subscription only, chances are that you would stop using it. What good is Xfire if the users abandon it?
(NEW) Q: Will Xfire continue to sell games?
A: Yes. We will continue to support the gamestore, and sell games. We also plan on adding more features and games.
Q: I saw a photo posted in the forums that showed a small game store in a strip mall named: Titan Games. Is that you?
A: No. Did you know that the record company that owns the rights to the Beetles is named Apple Corp...but it isn't Apple Inc (maker of the iPod). Sometimes companies have the same name, but are not connected.
Q: Will Xfire services remain online and available?
A: Everything you use will continue to be available in the form that you know it. In other words, we aren't going to ask you to start use a service, then make you pay for it.
Q: How will Xfire's users, partners, and advertisers benefit from the aqusition?
A: Xfire has always tried to bring the best to everyone involved. Now that Titan owns Xfire, the sky is the limit. We'll be listening better than ever before to what you want, and how we can make Xfire better.
{New}Q: I heard the entire Xfire staff was let go. How could you just buy them out, then fire them all?
A: Going forward, please understand that issues related to employment are very serious, and we cannot discuss them in detail. The entire staff was not let go. In fact, many of the original team members are still on board. When there is a 'changing of the guard' at a company, typically everyone tries to make it as seamless as possible. Please understand that nearly every sector of the American Economy is downsizing. The gaming industry isn't exempt from the economic conditions.
Q: I think that Xfire needs an overhaul. Are you going to do that?
A: Our responsbilities are to: 1) Fix security and bug issues, and 2) bring features that you've been asking for. It's a step by step process, and at this time, no overhaul is planned.
Q: Why did Titan aquire Xfire?
A: Everyone on the Titan team is a fan. We acquired it because it’s a great product that we love and want to build upon and innovate. The sky is the limit now.
Q: Is Xfire still accepting new accounts?
A: YES!
Q: Is my account safe? How about videos or my clan?
A: Yes, the worst thing we could do is shut down the features you love.
Q: Will Titan keep the Xfire name and branding?
A: Absolutely (along with other things).
Q: What were the terms of the acquisition?
A: MTVN and Titan have both decided to keep the exact details of the deal private.
Q: What are the plans for developers?
A: The current API for Xfire is great. We hope to add on to that and allow users to create more stuff for Xfire.

Menu Opdateringer - Cupmenu { 20.04.2010 }
